Welcome to 7th Grade Math!
Dear students & parents/guardians, Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I am excited to be your 7th grade math teacher and look forward to growing together this year! Please read through this letter and expectations for 7th grade math. Please contact me if there is anything I can do to assist you. Sincerely, Ms. Shealey Weights of the Grades: Major Assessments: 40% Quizzes: 30% Classwork : 20% Homework: 10% Late Work ….
Test Retake Policy
50% of the original Test grade + 50% of the Retake test grade. Letter Grades: A = 90 - 100 B = 80 - 89 C = 70 - 79 D = 60 - 69 F = 0 -59 Helpful Hints We Hate Late Please make sure you are seated at the start of class with your materials ready. After a 2nd tardy in my class your parent will be called. Your Agenda is Your Best Friend **Your agenda acts as your hall pass.** It is also used as a rule book, calendar and schedule. Make sure you bring your agenda to class DAILY! Organization is Key We will have a rigorous pace and need to look back through earlier work periodically for review. It is in your best interest to work hard to stay organized! I will help and tell you what you need to do to be organized. Come Visit The more time you spend with the material in 7th grade math, the easier it becomes. For extra help, please visit me starting at 7:45AM, after getting a pass from your tiger den teacher. Laptops/BYOD We are fortunate to have laptops, chrome books and iPads at RBMS for use during class activities. Additionally, your own device may be used as part of our BYOD program, only when permission is given. Absent?! If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get make-up work. I WILL NOT come looking for you Attendance on Test days is critical to keep up. You will not be eligible for bonus points awarded on test day if you are absent. Study Study Study 7th grade math can be difficult and full of new vocabulary that builds on the math you have learned from kindergarten - 6th grade. Reviewing material is a must if you want to be successful. Use Your Resources PowerSchool and my website will be updated regularly. Students and parents are encouraged to check both weekly. Please sign up for REMIND!! Contact Information: Email: [email protected] Remind: Text @panthmath Website: http://shealeymath.weebly.com A Message About Materials This year we will be integrating more hands on math to increase/ cement student knowledge of the materials we cover. Each Unit will have a MATH LAB, which is due 2 days after we take our Unit Test. Math LAB will be begun during school. It is possible to finish it in school as well. However, students are welcome to bring it home for help at home or extra time. Any materials given out i.e., Math Lab, Homework, Workbooks, Agendas are expected to be kept up with. (NOT LOST!!) We must be diligent about knowing where our things are! Parents/Guardians and Students. I am asking that all parents sign up for REMIND. With REMIND parents and students can receive messages about tests, homework & assignments. It is also a way for parents to text me ANYTIME and it goes right to my phone. Students can also utilize this if they have a question, need to tell me something or send me a funny joke…. Whatever! I encourage both Students and Parents to sign up for REMIND. This is my way of knowing I have open communication between myself and my student’s families. You can text me anytime, for any reason and in any language (I will get someone to help me figure it out!!). If you are thinking, “Well that’s ridiculous, I’m not going to disturb her with that!” then you need to send that right along to me! Finally, if you are having a hard time getting school materials for any reason, please let me know. I have been there and I will confidentially find help. I am wishing a great school year to all!
